Admitted cases also have part-time orthogeriatrican input, and a hip fracture care pathway is managed by a Clinical Nurse Specialist. UHW has over 1000 cases of the main fragility fractures (hip, pelvis, vertebra, humerus) admitted annually. The service is complex, interacting with four other hospitals in the region for orthopaedic referrals and for post-fracture care.
