Hospital regional número 1 de Querétaro
The Geriatrics Service at the Regional General Hospital No. 1 in Querétaro, led by Dr. Juan Carlos Márquez Solano in coordination with Dr. Alfonso Bareño Ramírez, has achieved notable productivity in 2025. The program has included three training events and the development of 41 professionals from different areas. Clinically, 1,150 new outpatient consultations and 758 follow-ups have been conducted, together with 249 first-time hospital admissions and 642 subsequent ones. Interconsultations reached 401 initial evaluations and 48 follow-ups, totaling 1,951 first-time encounters and 1,501 follow-up visits.
A major focus has been the comprehensive management of hip fractures through the OrtogeriatrIMSS program, which documented 118 initial assessments, 45 follow-ups, 61 rehabilitation admissions, and 8 reassessments, for a total of 179 interventions. Additionally, the systematic detection of geriatric syndromes has been emphasized, with high frequencies of fragility (751 cases), polypharmacy (738), sarcopenia (670), urinary incontinence (473), and cognitive impairment or dementia (288).
The service has reduced average hospital stay to five days and achieved treatment optimization, decreasing three to four medications per patient. These results highlight the service as a key provider of comprehensive care for older adults, focusing on functional recovery and prevention of complications, particularly after hip fracture.
