The International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) participated in the 2025 Mexican Congress on Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Diseases, organized by the Mexican Association of Bone and Mineral Metabolism (AMMOM) , which took place from June 12 to 15 in Acapulco, Mexico. The event featured a high-level academic programme and a large number of national and international specialists.

As part of its participation, the IOF presented the poster for the project "Dataset Argentina 2025: Set of variables for the evaluation of patients with fragility fractures in FLS in Argentina," a key tool developed in collaboration with Capture the Fracture® FLS mentors in Argentina to standardize data collection in the country's Fracture Liaison Services (FLS). This dataset brings together a set of demographic, clinical, and outcome variables, designed to facilitate the uniform recording of relevant information on patients with fragility fractures. Its objective is to improve data quality, facilitate comparison between national FLSs, and support continuous improvement processes.

The work was also selected for oral presentation, which took place on Friday, June 13th, during the conference's scientific sessions. This demonstrates the scientific community's interest in initiatives that strengthen the management and evaluation of FLS in Latin America. Among the highlights, it was noted that more than 70% of participating FLS in Argentina identified difficulties in systematic data collection as one of their main challenges, reinforcing the importance of tools like the Argentina Dataset to advance toward more efficient, evidence-based care.

This recognition underscores the project's regional relevance, not only in strengthening data management in osteoporosis, but also as a first step toward future standardization throughout Latin America.

IOF's presence at the congress also included its participation in the Allied Societies Meeting, a collaborative forum for national organizations committed to bone health. At this meeting, IOF renewed its commitment to continue working alongside local medical societies to raise awareness about osteoporosis and prevent fractures, not only through collaboration with healthcare professionals but also by promoting initiatives aimed at the general public and patients.

Mónica Caló, IOF manager for Latin America, stated: “The sustained collaboration between IOF and AMMOM reflects the value of working together to continue driving improvements in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of osteoporosis in Mexico and throughout Latin America.”
