Shanghai General Hospital
Our team has long been dedicated to enhancing the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporotic fractures (OPF). In Shanghai, China, we pioneered the OPF Liaison Program, establishing the OPF Early Warning Management System (OPFEMS) and an OPF Biobank. Supported by a major clinical research project in Shanghai, we led a multicenter (involving 3 tertiary hospitals), large-sample (1,200 cases), long-term follow-up (over 1 year) prospective randomized controlled study. Leveraging the OPFEMS, we implemented a comprehensive "four-in-one" management approach for OPF patients, integrating strict monitoring, systematic assessment, risk warning, and multidisciplinary treatment. This initiative facilitates the development of a geriatric OPF diagnostic and treatment system, effectively preventing recurrent fractures, reducing mortality, breaking the vicious cycle of OPF, and significantly alleviating the economic burden on society, families, and individuals. It generates substantial economic benefits and provides a foundation for refining OPF diagnostic and treatment protocols and establishing standardized guidelines.
