In Northern Ireland, World Osteoporosis Day Goes to Stormont!
The Belfast Trust (HSCNI) is one of five regional organizations that make up the public health and social care system in Northern Ireland. It provides health and social care services to the city of Belfast and is responsible for many of the specialist regional services for the entire country. To mark World Osteoporosis Day, an impressive awareness event was held at Stormont, the Northern Ireland Assembly, organized by the Belfast Trust (HSCNI).
The event was an excellent opportunity to spotlight osteoporosis and the vital work that Fracture Liaison Services (FLS) provide. It attracted many members of the public as well as numerous Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), including the Health Minister, Mr. Mike Nesbitt.
Organizer Gillian Craigan, Fracture Liaison Osteoporosis Sister (BHCST) shared:
“We were honoured to have the opportunity to convey to the Health Minister of Northern Ireland the vital importance of bone health across the lifespan.”
All five FLS teams from across Northern Ireland were represented:
• Belfast Health and Social Care Trust
• Northern Health and Social Care Trust
• South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust
• Southern Health and Social Care Trust
• Western Health and Social Care Trust
News and photos from the event were widely shared by the Royal Osteoporosis Society and the Falls and Fragility Fracture Audit Programme (FFFAP) across their social media channels.
IOF and Capture the Fracture® congratulate the organizers and participating FLS teams for arranging this outstanding event. Fracture Liaison Services play a crucial role at the forefront of osteoporosis care, and their ongoing commitment to education, patient awareness, and advocacy is truly invaluable.
