Swiss/Alps FLS Network marks fifth annual meeting to advance secondary fracture prevention

Swiss/Alps FLS

On November 7th, 2025, the Swiss/Alps FLS Network convened for the fifth consecutive year, continuing an important annual tradition that brings together Fracture Liaison Services (FLS) from across Switzerland and Austria. The meeting serves as a platform for networking, sharing best practices, and generating new ideas to advance secondary fracture prevention.

A highlight of the event was a series of guest lectures by Prof. Kassim Javaid of the University of Oxford, who spoke on strategies for managing patients at very high fracture risk, improving patient identification, and the growing value of digitalization in FLS practice.

This year’s workshop introduced an interactive format: participants were divided into three groups, each assigned a different challenge along the FLS pathway—from patient identification to monitoring and long-term management. Throughout the sessions, they were guided by FLS experts Prof. Kassim Javaid, Dr. Sigrid Jehle, and Prof. Thierry Chevalley.

Participants also viewed a short, patient-focused video on osteoporosis aimed at improving awareness and understanding of the disease. This video was developed in collaboration between the Swiss national society ‘Schweizerische Vereinigung gegen Osteoporose (SVGO)’ and the company VideoDesign.

Guest lecturer, Jake Wellian, from the International Osteoporosis Foundation, presented key milestones achieved within the Capture the Fracture® programme over the past year. These included the addition of new Swiss FLS—Luzerner Kantonsspital and Rehaklinik Dussnang—to the global Map of Best Practice, as well as the promotion of Kantonsspital Baselland to Gold Star status. With these updates, Switzerland now counts 23 participating FLS within the programme.
