Western Health (Sunshine, Footscray and Williamstown Hospitals)

Directed by Prof. Gustavo Duque (https://findanexpert.unimelb.edu.au/display/person756934) and run by our Fracture Prevention Coordinator, the Western Health Fracture Care and Prevention Program includes a Fracture Liaison Service – which has been running since 2015 – an orthogeriatrics program, a Falls and Fractures Clinic (http://www.westernhealth.org.au/HealthProfessionals/ForGPs/Referrals/Pag...), densitometry services and a Gait and Balance Gym (Gabagym). Western Health (WH) manages three acute public hospitals: Footscray Hospital at Footscray; Sunshine Hospital at St Albans; and the Williamstown Hospital. It also operates the Sunbury Day Hospital, and a Transition Care Program at Hazeldean in Williamstown. Services are provided to the western region of Melbourne which has a population of approximately 800,000 people. The fracture liaison service handles all fragility fractures and serves about 750 patients per year. Our clinical program is closely integrated with our research activities at the Australian Institute for Musculoskeletal Science (AIMSS) (www.aimss.org.au).
