Uonuma Kikan Hospital

As a Level 3 emergency hospital, we established an FLS team in 2021 to prevent secondary fractures in patients with proximal femoral fractures. This multidisciplinary team comprises orthopedic surgeons, internists, dentists, nurses (inpatient and outpatient), rehabilitation staff (PT, OT, ST), pharmacists, radiologic technologists, and registered dietitians.

In addition to this internal multidisciplinary liaison team, our hospital is strengthening four key collaborations: interdepartmental collaboration, medical-dental collaboration, community collaboration, and collaboration with government agencies. Through interdepartmental collaboration with the Department of General Internal Medicine, postoperative medical complications decreased. Collaboration with the Department of Dentistry ensured appropriate evaluation of the postoperative oral environment. Patients with proximal femoral fractures are elderly and prone to complications, necessitating multidisciplinary collaboration. Furthermore, as a tertiary emergency hospital, our institution frequently admits patients requiring rehabilitation transfers, making regional collaboration essential. Additionally, since osteoporosis screening is crucial for primary fracture prevention, collaboration with local government agencies is also necessary.
