Baton Rouge Orthopaedic Clinic
The Healthy Bone Program at Baton Rouge Orthopaedic Clinic (BROC) is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) designed to identify, evaluate, and manage patients aged 50 and older who suffer fragility fractures. Our goal is to reduce secondary fractures through timely osteoporosis assessment, treatment initiation, patient education, and long-term follow-up.
We are proud participants in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Own the Bone program, which supports our evidence-based approach to secondary fracture prevention and long-term bone health. Led by a dedicated FLS coordinator/Physician Assistant, our team collaborates closely with orthopedic surgeons, primary care providers, and specialists to ensure seamless, patient-centered care.
Our protocol includes risk assessment tools (e.g., FRAX), laboratory testing, DXA scanning, and individualized treatment plans following national and international guidelines. Patients are monitored through a structured database to track adherence and outcomes.
In addition to clinical care, we emphasize patient education and community outreach to raise awareness of osteoporosis, bone health, and fall prevention. By integrating best practices and aligning with the IOF Capture the Fracture® initiative, we strive to reduce the global burden of fragility fractures and improve quality of life for our aging population.
