Sunway Medical Centre Damansara (SMCD)
The Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) is a coordinated, evidence-based program established to systematically identify, evaluate, and manage patients presenting with fragility fractures. These patients are at significantly increased risk of subsequent fractures, yet osteoporosis often remains underdiagnosed and undertreated.
At Sunway Medical Centre Damansara, the FLS will provide a structured pathway for secondary fracture prevention. This includes early identification of at-risk patients, comprehensive osteoporosis assessment, appropriate investigations such as bone mineral density (DXA) scanning, and initiation of guideline-directed pharmacological therapy. In addition, patients will receive counselling on nutrition, exercise, fall prevention strategies, and long-term adherence to treatment.
The service will operate through a multidisciplinary framework involving orthopaedics, endocrinology, geriatrics, rehabilitation, and allied health support. By ensuring continuity of care from the acute fracture episode through long-term osteoporosis management, the FLS aims to reduce re-fracture rates, improve patient outcomes, and optimise healthcare resource utilisation.
