Spitalzentrum Oberwallis

Patients with an osteoporosis-related fracture (fragility fracture) often do not receive appropriate care. Without adequate measures, osteoporosis will be one of the greatest challenges for the Swiss healthcare system in the coming years.
Patients with a fragility fracture are identified with regard to osteoporosis and receive an adequate diagnosis.
Treatment of newly diagnosed osteoporosis will be initiated during hospitalization. Overall, the quality of patient care is improved in terms of secondary prevention.
A coordinated osteoporosis management using Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) was performed since December 2019 at the Spitalzentrum Oberwallis (SZO). The service is provided by a FLS team consisting of physicians
of traumatology, orthopedics, geriatrics and rehabilitation, as well as nursing experts (FLS Nurses) in collaboration with the respective primary care physician
