Sahlgrenska University Hospital Mölndal
The Sahlgrenska University Hospital Mölndal coordinator based FLS was established in 2014 and now includes patients aged 50 years and older with any clinical fracture. All clinical fractures are identified using the Swedish Fracture Register. AI-based screening on X-ray reports is used to identify patients with vertebral fractures not captured in registers. Nearly 6000 fracture patients are identified yearly. Patients are offered bone densitometry (DXA), and treatment is provided within the FLS or through recommendations (after fracture risk assessment and bone densitometry) to primary care physicians. Hip fracture patients are evaluated before discharge and started on antiresorptive treatment (denosumab) if appropriate. The efficacy of the FLS in its early form (evaluating only patients with major osteoporotic fractures) has been demonstrated in this publication: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32097504/.
