Diakonhjemmet hospital

Diakonhjemmet hospital is a public and teaching hospital in Oslo, Norway, serving a population of approximately 400.000 in view of osteoprosis. The hospital has had a Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) since 2016 and have improved the services over the years. The FLS is organized under the orthopaedics in close collaboration with the Department of Rheumatology. The FLS nurses capture patients with fractures treated at the hospital (out-patients and inpatients) through outreach work locally and through administrative lists ensuring a capture rate above 90%. The FLS nurse referrer all patients above 50 years with fragility fractures (hip, vertebral and other fractures) to DXA examination. The Department of Rheumatology perform the DXA scans and screening for secondary osteoporosis through biochemistry and the FRAX questionnaires. The rheumatologists are responsible for the follow-up and adjustments of the osteoporosis treatment except for the eldest and most fragile who are in care the geriatricians. The hospital also serves the family doctors in the community. The Diakonhjemmet hospital perform FLS, medical examination for osteoporosis, long-term treatment and educational programs for patients, nurses and doctors in multidisciplinary teams with nurses, rheumatologist, geriatricians, orthopaedics, radiologists and more so to provide optimal and evidence-based services to patients with fragility fractures.
