Capture the Fracture® Workshop in Japan showcases growing momentum for quality improvement in OLS/FLS
The Capture the Fracture® (CTF) programme hosted a highly successful and engaging workshop in Japan, attended by 76 participants. The Workshop, which drew strong interest from Osteoporosis Liaison Services (OLS) and Fracture Liaison Services (FLS) coordinators across the country, was held at Hamamatsucho Convention Hall in Tokyo, ahead of the 9th Asia Pacific Bone Health Conference.
Moderated by Professor Atsushi Suzuki, the workshop featured expert speakers Professors Satoshi Ikeda, Takeshi Sawaguchi, Hiroki Yasuoka, Masahiro Tanaka, Naohide Takigawa, and Noriaki Yamamoto.
The programme opened with introductions from Atsushi Suzuki (International Osteoporosis Foundation), Satoshi Ikeda (Japan Osteoporosis Society), and Takeshi Sawaguchi (Fragility Fracture Network (FFN) Japan, setting the stage for a day of dynamic discussion and collaborative learning.
Attendees engaged in interactive group discussions on key topics beginning with the OLS/FLS ‘Getting to Gold: a broader scope of fracture prevention’ session. The session included a review of the progress and status of the 140 OLS/FLS in Japan within the CTF umbrella, case studies from Gold service FLS mentors, funding, and patient pathways.
A Group discussion on OLS/FLS reimbursement and the importance of capturing all fractures beyond hip fractures was followed by a presentation on the importance of aligning clinical practice with the latest Japanese Osteoporosis Society guidelines. This was followed by a session dedicated to Japanese KPIs for FLS and the FFN-J Hip Fracture Registry. A Quality Improvement Workshop involved small group discussions on how to address the challenges of improving quality in FLS, the results of which were then presented to the entire group.
The Workshop’s collaborative atmosphere and strong engagement highlighted the growing momentum to harmonize and strive for continued improvements in OLS/FLS. It reflected the shared commitment to advancing OLS/FLS services and improving patient outcomes nationwide, further reinforcing Japan’s prominent position on the global Capture the Fracture® Map of Best Practice.
