UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL AINTREE, AINTREE FRACTURE REDUCTION INITIATICE (AFRI)

Aintree University Hospital FLS was launched in 2002. Our service covers 350,000 residents of North Liverpool. The lead clinician is Dr M Siddiqi, who is supported by Jacqueline O’Hare, Sr Osteoporosis Specialist Nurse. All patients presenting with low trauma fracture to the hospital fracture clinic or admitted with such a fracture are screened for osteoporosis and are offered a DXA scan. They attend a Nurse-led clinic for treatment and advice. Our usual yearly attendance is around 1500. Since 2010 we have added vertebral fracture liaison as well. Any patient admitted with or found to have a vertebral fracture on routine x-rays, CT/MR scans is referred to us and is assessed by us as a low trauma fracture, unless proven otherwise. This experience led us to provide extra vertebral fracture clinics to help these patients with treatment facilities like vertebro/kyphoplasty.
