The service integrates clinical assessment, DXA-based bone mineral density, vertebral fracture assessment, laboratory investigation of secondary causes of bone fragility, fracture risk assessment and individualized prevention and treatment strategies. Patients with fragility fractures are systematically identified and incorporated into a prospective electronic REDCap registry, supporting longitudinal follow-up and quality improvement.
The Unit coordinates care among a multidisciplinary team including rheumatology, endocrinology, gynecology, nephrology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and nutrition, with access to additional medical specialties through the hospital's comprehensive healthcare network. The service has on-site access to laboratory testing, DXA and vertebral imaging, physiotherapy and rehabilitation resources, and specialist consultations according to individual patient needs. This integrated hospital-based model facilitates comprehensive assessment and coordinated management of patients with bone fragility and metabolic bone diseases.
