HOSPITAL MIGUEL SERVET

Our Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) at Hospital Universitario Miguel Servet is a multidisciplinary secondary fracture prevention program coordinated by the Rheumatology Department under the leadership of Dr. Moreno García. The service is focused on the systematic identification, assessment, and management of patients aged 50 years and older who sustain fragility fractures.

The FLS works in close collaboration with Orthopaedics, Internal Medicine, Rehabilitation, Primary Care, Geriatrics, Radiology, and Nursing to ensure comprehensive osteoporosis care. Patients admitted with hip, vertebral, wrist, humerus, and other fragility fractures are identified through daily hospital screening and referral pathways.

Our program includes fracture risk evaluation, bone mineral density assessment, laboratory investigation of secondary osteoporosis, falls risk assessment, and initiation of evidence-based anti-osteoporotic treatment when indicated. Patients and caregivers receive education regarding bone health, nutrition, calcium/vitamin D supplementation, exercise, and treatment adherence.

Follow-up is coordinated through Rheumatology outpatient clinics and communication with Primary Care physicians to improve long-term adherence and reduce the risk of subsequent fractures. The service also collects clinical indicators and outcome data to support continuous quality improvement and alignment with IOF Capture the Fracture® standards.
